SUBJECT: BAND INSTRUMENTS

The
Board of School Trustees is committed, whenever financial circumstances permit,
to provide quality band and music programmes for pupils of School District No.
78 (Fraser-Cascade).
To
that end, the Board will assist pupils to rent or purchase instruments as
outlined in the regulations of this policy.

1. Instrument
Rental
School
District No. 78 (Fraser-Cascade) will purchase musical instruments which will
be rented to pupils of the District according to the following schedule:
a) A proposed schedule of instrument
rental fees will be forwarded to the Board annually for approval from each area
of the district.
b) Fees are payable at each school or at
the District Education Office.
c) Instruments may be purchased for cash
or on a "lease-to-purchase" basis, applying up to one year's paid rental toward the purchase price, with the
purchase to be completed by June 30 of that school year.
d) Only the first two pupils per family
shall pay rent. Additional family
members renting at the same time shall be loaned instruments at no charge.
e) Rented instruments which are damaged or
worn through normal day-to-day usage will be repaired or replaced by the School
District.
f) Rented or loaned instruments that are
lost, willfully damaged, or damaged through neglect or mischief, will not be
repaired or replaced by the School District.
The person renting or borrowing the instrument will be required to pay
for repair or replacement.
2. Instrument
Rental - Commercial
a) The Board of School Trustees assumes no
responsibility for instruments rented from a commercial source.
b) Parents/Guardians of pupils renting
from a commercial source should contact their insurance agent for protection
against damage, fire or theft.
3. Purchased
Instruments
a) The Board of School Trustees assumes no
responsibility for privately owned instruments.
b) Parents/Guardians of pupils who have
instruments should contact their insurance agent for protection against damage,
fire or theft.
