SUBJECT: MAINTENANCE OF ORDER AND PROTECTION OF
PUPILS

The purpose of the Maintenance of Order and Protection of
Pupils Policy is to ensure that no person shall disturb or disrupt the
proceedings of a school or an official school function.
The Board of School Trustees authorizes all employees of
School District No. 78 (Fraser-Cascade) to follow such courses of action as
deemed appropriate for the protection of pupils and Maintenance of Order on all
District property.

1. Maintenance of Order
Section 177
of the School Act states:
191. (1) No
person shall disturb or interrupt the proceedings of a school or an official
school function.
(2) A person who is directed to leave the
land or premises of a school by an administrative officer or a person
authorized by the board to make that direction
(a) shall immediately leave the land and
premises, and
(b) shall not enter on the land and premises
again except with prior approval from the administrative officer or a person
who is authorized by the board to give that approval.
(3) A person who contravenes subsection (1)
or (2) commits an offence.
(4) An administrative officer of a school or
a person authorized by the board may, in order to restore order on school
premises, require adequate assistance from a peace officer.
2. General
(a) In order to protect pupils or maintain
order, the Board authorizes employees to request individuals to leave a Board
property under authorization established by Board policy in the following order
of authority.
i) principal or designate
ii) vice-principal or designate
iii) teacher
iv) clerk, janitor, maintenance.
(b) No employee shall come into physical
contact with those disrupting or destroying Maintenance of Order, but shall
request the individual to vacate the property immediately.
(c) If an individual refuses the order in
(b) above, the employee shall immediately contact the R.C.M.P. and explain the
situation and take no further action until the R.C.M.P. are on the scene.
