The Board of Education will not tolerate any form of discrimination by, or against, any officer, employee, or pupil of School District No. 78 (Fraser-Cascade).

SUBJECT:             DISCRIMINATION

 

 

 

1.         Definition

 

Discrimination is defined as acting toward someone with partiality or prejudice.

 

Areas in which discrimination could occur are age, gender, sexual orientation, colour, creed, religious or political affiliation, national origin, marital status, physical or mental disability.  These areas are examples and should not be considered as all inclusive.

 

2.         Equality Rights

 

            From the Canadian Charter of Rights, 15.(1) states:

 

“Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and, in particular, without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability.”

 

3.      Procedure

 

a)                  Any formal or written allegation of discrimination within the school district will be investigated by the Superintendent of Schools.

 

b)            If the allegation warrants, the Superintendent will recommend a course of action to the Board.

 

c)            All investigated cases of alleged discrimination will be reported to the Board by the Superintendent.

 

d)            All school Codes of Conduct will include matters pertaining to discrimination as per Policy #6205.
